BIANCO CALACATTA

Italian marble

Calacata marble: it is a type of breccia with very light yellowish-white clasts, formed in a carbonate matrix rich in muscovite and chlorite, of a more green and ocher color than the clasts themselves. Its name derives from the Calacata locality (north of the city of Torano, Carrara sensu stricto deposit), which is where this material is mainly extracted. The background color and texture are always those of the Statuario, with veins a few centimeters wide that can chromatically go from light gray to pale yellow or gold (variety "Calacata Macchia Oro" = Goldspotted Calacata; oro = gold), and sometimes they are greenish and brown.
The grain and the general appearance, depending largely on the orientation of the cut, are sometimes very pronounced, which gives the Calacata a distinctive design that makes it unmistakable from the other varieties. Together with the Statuario, it represents another precious and valuable type of marble, rare to find and extracted only in the Carrara sensu stricto deposits. In recent years, artificial stone manufacturers have been copying and flooding the market for imitations of Calacata Marble, perhaps more than any other stone.
